San Diego Splits Against Eastern Michigan

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team posted a split decision in their doubleheader against the Eastern Michigan Eagles winning 5-0 in game one and losing in game two 10-3 Wednesday night from the USD Softball Complex.

In game one, the Toreros posted a shutout allowing four hits and committing only one error. USD's Jennifer Ellenbeck pitched seven scoreless innings tallying her fourth complete game of the season while on offense she sent a ball over the left field fence for a solo homerun. USD's offense was in high gear as they posted consecutive runs in the first three innings for a 4-0 lead. San Diego also recorded a run in the fifth inning to secure the 5-0 victory.

In the night cap, the Toreros had a rocky start as they fell behind 0-3 to the Eagles through the first two and a half innings. EMU tacked on another four runs in the top half of the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Freshman pitcher Alyssa Luna pitched her way out of the top half of the inning recording a third-out strikeout. However it was not enough to spark USD as they were unable to get the offense going until the fifth inning.

USD put together a three run fifth inning as Stacy Compton led off a with a single to right field. Danielle Duhart grounded out to first base and Nichole Valenzuela lined out to second base as the Toreros fell behind two outs. Casciola followed with a single to center field which allowed compton to move to second base. Bonja walked which loaded the bases for Lindsey Fleet. Fleet smashed a ball into the left center gap for a base-clearing double cutting the Eagles lead to four. EMU came back to score another three runs in the sixth inning to make it 10-3 not allowing USD to mount a comeback in the seventh inning.

Offensively for USD, Lindsey Fleet hit a combined 2-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI. Celeste Soto hit 2-for-6 also with one run scored.

Defensively for USD, Ellenbeck pitched a complete game allowing only four hits and six strikeouts. Alyssa Luna saddles the loss for game two pitching 4.1 innings and striking out five batters.

USD returns to take on the University of Oregon Ducks Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at the USD Softball Complex.
