San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego Women's Tennis team defeated the Loyola Marymount Lions 7-0 in impressive fashion by sweeping all six singles matches, four of which were clinched in straight sets, and earning the doubles point. This is the second straight match win for the Toreros to open up the 2009 Spring season.
At No. 1 singles, freshman Juliette Coupez struggled early against LMU's only senior, Tina Razloznik, but came back to win by a final of 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Also, fellow freshman Maja Sujica at No. 3 singles downed Jane Pringle in three sets (4-6, 7-5, 10-3) after a series of lengthy rallies that ended in Sujica's favor.
The Toreros received straight set singles victories from sophomore Samantha Mouly at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1 vs. Jasmin Heckel), senior Tammy Kevey at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2 vs. Shauna Morgan), junior Alexandra Demidova at No. 5 (7-5, 6-1 vs. Elisaveta Pironkova), and freshman Maria Raygada at No. 6 (6-3, 7-5 vs. Estelle LaPorte).
The Lions picked up their lone match win of the day at No. 1 doubles when the tandem of Heckel-Prionkova defeated Coupez-Mouly, 8-6. USD received commanding doubles wins from Kevey-Sujica at No. 2 (8-0 over Pringle-Nixon) and junior Justine Perl-Raygada at No. 3 (8-5 vs. Razloznik-Morgan).
