Norman, Okla. - The No. 63 University of San Diego (4-8) fell 6-1 to the 48th-ranked University of Oklahoma (7-4) inside the Gregg Wadley Tennis Pavilion in Norman, Okla. on Saturday. #81 Dean Jackson for the third straight match downed a ranked opponent, this time defeating #97 Andrei Daescu, 7-6, 6-4.
OU began the match taking the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead. The Toreros were unable to gain an edge, as the Sooners continued to dominate the match, rolling through singles competition with just one loss.
OU's Blake Boswell was the first to notch a win for the Sooners by defeating sophomore Nils Schive in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
At No. 4, freshman Nicola Bubnic 6-2, 6-4 lost to Ionut Beleleu. Sergey Avdeyev finalized OU's victory, defeating Chris Coetzee of San Diege 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) at the No. 3 spot.
Two of the final three matches went to three sets. At No. 5 freshman Tom Wolff fell to George Chanturia 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Soon after, senior Charl Wolmarans at the No. 2 spot was taken down 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 by David Pultr.
The final match came down to the No. 1 position headlined by two ranked players in 81st-ranked sophomore Dean Jackson and No. 97 Andrei Daescu. Jackson secured the Toreros' only point of the match by downing Daescu, 7-6, 6-4.
The Toreros will try and get back on the winning track when they migrate North to Stillwater, Okla. to take on the Cowboys of Oklahoma State, Monday at 11:00 a.m. PT.
