Greetings from Colorado! That's right...it's the time of year when everyone goes their separate ways for a few weeks before we all get back to San Diego for the "highly anticipated" summer school session. The reason why I am greeting everyone from the Mile High State is because that's where my home is.
If you don't know already, our team is somewhat dispersed, Morgan Henderson (`Mo') went to her home state of Kansas, Erica (`E') went back to the comfortable 110 degree weather of Tucson, Arizona; Nya, Sam, and Emily all went home to Portland, and everyone else stayed in California. Of course we all love being in San Diego for the summer, working out together, and taking a class...but none of us complain about being able to go home for a few weeks and rejuvenate.
Once we all get back to San Diego, our schedule looks like this; weights and conditioning workouts, class, pick-up games, then free time. Workouts start at 7 am-for those early birds it's perfect...and for those who aren't the most chipper in the morning such as, Nya and Domo (Dominique), well I guess they'll have to get used to it! After workouts we have class during the day, and no, it's not unusual that we all take the same class, so hopefully the professor won't be alarmed when the majority of his class list is the entire Univeristy of San Diego Women's basketball team!
When everyone is done with class we play pick up games. Everyone likes playing pick-up games in the summer because we get to play against other basketball players besides our own teammates. For instance we (and when I say we play, I mean they play, but yes I will go to wherever they play and watch...it's very entertaining) will all go over to San Diego State to play with their team. By the time we're done playing everyone is worn out and ready to go to bed so we can wake up and do it all over again!
Personally, my favorite part about the summer is the team comradery that comes along with it. I know I know...it's hard to believe that my favorite part isn't being stuck in my dorm room, on a warm summer night, studying for a summer course, only to get up early and work out. Going to the beach with the team on our day off, or giving the incoming freshmen a hard time- all in good fun of course, is what makes the summer in San Diego unbeatable.
