Day 2 Complete Draws

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's tennis team continued play at the USTA/ITA Southwest Region Championships at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. on Friday with junior Juliette Coupez pulling out the only victory for the Toreros on the day.

Coupez knocked off No. 16 seed Jaklin Alawi of Long Beach State (6-0, 6-1) in the round of 32. Alawi came into the tournament with a No. 100 national ranking. Unfortunately, Coupez lost her next match to Southern California's Kaitlyn Christian (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the round of 16.

Also in the singles round of 32, Laura Claus missed out on her chance to knock off the tournament's No. 1 seed, Maria Sanchez of Southern California, as Sanchez took the match (6-4, 6-2).

In the consolation brackets, the Toreros were unable to pull off a victory. In singles, Anna Depenau fell to Courtney Byron of UC Irvine (6-0, 6-0), while Cara Brown was topped by Hawaii's Natasha Zorec (7-6[2], 6-2), and Maja Sujica lost to Arizona's Lacey Smyth (6-1, 7-6[3]). On the doubles side, Claus and Depenau were outlasted by Lorraine Cheung and Nigora Sirojiddinova of Cal State Northridge (9-8).

Doubles play is set to start at 8:30 a.m. from Barnes Tennis Center on Saturday, with singles following.
