SOUTH BEND, Indiana - The University of San Diego Cross Country team traveled to Notre Dame for the prestigious Notre Dame Invitational race hosting many of the top cross country programs in the nation. USD faired well in their respective races running with top programs including Oregon, Florida State, Villanova, and host Notre Dame.
"It was tough competition in South Bend, but well worth the experience," said head coach Will Guarino. "The most important part is how the men and women will take this racing experience and apply it."
The Torero women did well as a squad in the 5k race lead by Kristy Koenes with a time of 18:04. Gillian Gorelik followed with a team finish of second place in 18:33. Rounding out the finishing times were Emerald Raney in 19:10, Jessica McCarthy in 19:12, Samantha Espindola in 19:18, Mackenzie Entrikin in 19:32 and Christen Collins in 19:40.
On the men's side, a solid race for the guys with tough competition. Erik Anderson lead the way with 25:56 followed by Chris Flaherty in 26.48. Willie Schefer finished in 27:02, Cameron Erhardt had a mark of 27:04, John Cutter in 27:26, Kyle Carruthers in 27:47, and John Maheu in 28:22.
"We will not see the results of this race until the end of the season however traveling to Notre Dame was a phenomenal opportunity which will make our program grow," said Guarino.
The Toreros will prepare for the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, California hosted by Santa Clara at 8:00 a.m. on October 16.
