SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The San Diego men's and women's cross country seasons both came to a close at the NCAA West Regionals on Saturday, at Arcade Creek in the Golden State capital.
It was an emotional day for the Toreros, especially for the seniors.
Jake Coleman,
Jack DeVries,
William Gratke,
Nathalie Green and
Lizzie McVey concluded their racing careers in a Torero uniform.
"We will miss the core group of Seniors, we have been blessed to have them grow within our program, we are grateful for their work, and are so thankful for their contributions to our program," head coach
Will Guarino said.
The women's team took 35th in the 39-team field, while the men's team placed 30th overall in the field of 30 teams.
Individually, freshman
Clare Boneau led the way for the women, placing 151st with a time of 22:19.9. She was followed by
Sydney Tackett (22:36.2),
Nathalie Green (23:08.1),
Lizzie McVey (23:10.3), and
Camryn Kozak (23:14.6).
Jake Coleman headlined the efforts for the men in the 10k, running a 33:06.6 which was good for 171st.
Michael Ivory (34:25.3), and
Maxwell Gibbons (34:42.1) were next for the Toreros, with
Jack DeVries (35:06.9) and
William Gratke (39:12.1) rounding out the scoring.
"It was a muddy day in Sacramento, we knew that we would have to be gritty as the conditions were not ideal, but we needed to grind out the miles in the course," said Guarino.
Coleman nor any of the women were able to qualify for the NCAA Championship, marking the end of the Toreros' 2025 cross country season, a season of growth and trial, headlined by youthful potential.
