SAN DIEGO — University of San Diego Cross Country and Track Head Coach Will Guarino announced the hiring of Grace Barnett as Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach on Wednesday.
Barnett brings elite competitive experience and a background in education to the program.
Her collegiate career began as a walk-on at Clemson, where she developed into an All-American in both cross country and track. After college, she competed professionally with the ASICS Mammoth Track Club and qualified for the 2021 and 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Barnett's journey through the sport — from walking on at Clemson to competing on the national stage — continues to shape her approach to coaching.
"I'm really excited to be at USD," Barnett said. "My experience in running has taught me the value of showing up every day, embracing the process, and finding joy in hard work — both on the course and in the classroom. I want to help student-athletes push themselves, grow through challenges, and develop habits that will serve them long after graduation. For me, coaching is about perseverance, balance, and helping each athlete reach their potential while enjoying the journey."
While training professionally, Barnett also worked in education, strengthening her passion for mentorship and student development.
"We are thrilled to have Grace join the USD coaching staff," said Coach Will Guarino. "She brings a wealth of knowledge, great energy and a passion to both sports of track and cross country."
Barnett officially began in her role on Feb. 17 and joins the Toreros eager to contribute to a culture built on consistent effort, belief in potential, and continuous growth — values that have defined her own journey.
