Matt Hauser Named WCC Pitcher of the Week

March 22, 2010

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Senior right-handed pitcher Matt Hauser of the University of San Diego baseball team was named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. This is Hauser's first WCC Pitcher of the Week distinction of his career.

Hauser, a 6-2 senior from Newport Beach, Calif., picked up both a win and a save against No. 14 Rice this past week, as he allowed no runs on one hit in 3.1 innings of work. In Friday's win over Rice, Hauser picked up his third save of the season. Rice was threatening in the top of the eighth inning as they loaded the bases with two outs. Hauser got the first batter he faced to ground out, getting USD out of the jam. Hauser then mowed down the Rice batters in order in the ninth inning getting the first two batters to strikeout and the final batter to fly out to centerfield, en route to picking up his third save of the season. Then on Saturday, Hauser picked up his first win of the season, as he allowed no runs on one hit in 2.0 innings of work.

Hauser and the Toreros return to action on Tuesday as they host UC Riverside in a 3 p.m. non-conference game at Cunningham Stadium.
