Complete Pentathlon Results 
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD Swimming and Diving team opened their season at the San Diego State Pentathlon. The Toreros fell 163-273 to the Aztecs. USD had a strong showing against the crosstown rival.
"This was the first meet of the year and the coaching staff is very pleased with how our team performed," said head coach Mike Keeler. "We're looking forward to the season ahead."
The pentathlon format has six events with almost every girl swimming each event. First was the 100 freestyle followed by the 100 butterfly, the 100 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke, and the 200 individual medley.
In the 100 freestyle, Melissa Andruzzi finished team high eighth place in 53.53 followed by teammate Sarah Geerdes in ninth place with a time of 53.56. Francesca Finucane finished 10th with a mark of 53.61 for the Toreros. In the 100 butterfly, Kelly Stone took fifth place in 58.20 followed by Jacquie Kimmel in 11th place with 1:00.44.
Kristyn Deckard took seventh place for USD in the 100 backstroke event with a time of 1:00.62. Kimmel took 14th overall in 1:02.95 and rounding out the top three was Eleanor Phillips with a 1:04.04.
In the 100 breaststroke, Andruzzi took sixth place in 1:08.88 followed by Geerdes in ninth place in 1:10.79 and Kimmel in 14th with a mark of 1:12.13.
In the 200 individual medley, Andruzzi finished in first place with a 2:11.91 followed by Kimmel in second place with a 2:17.99. Katie Olsen finished third with 2:18.50 and Geerdes in fourth in 2:18.76.
San Diego returns to their home pool at the Sports Center on Thursday, September 30 for their intrasquad meet scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
