SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego softball team posted a 13-2 win over San Diego City College in their fall exhibition opener Friday evening from the USD Softball Complex. The Toreros put up 19 hits in the contest, while scoring in four of the seven innings played, including five-run innings in the third and sixth.
Senior catcher Taylor Hensley paced the USD offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk. Hensley was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle.
Sophomore outfielder Dana Prelsnik set the table for the Toreros with a 3-for-3 day at the leadoff spot.
A trio of freshmen turned in solid offensive performances as well, with Katie Emerson, Morgan Kurtz, and Noelle Devlin collecting two hits apiece.
Senior right hander Kaitlin Healy picked up the win in five innings of work, allowing only two earned runs. Sophomore righty Cassidy Coleman came in out of the bullpen to toss two innings in which she struck out six batters and allowed one hit.
The Toreros continue fall play on Saturday when they host Riverside Community College for a scheduled 12-inning exhibition set to begin at 12:00pm.
