SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's tennis team won a pair of dual matches this weekend as they defeated Denver University 7-0 on Saturday at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club and No. 42 Sacramento State 5-2 on Sunday at USD's Hogan Tennis Center. The 25th-ranked Toreros improved to 10-4 with the wins, while Denver dropped to 4-10 and Sacramento State to 8-7.
Against the Pioneers, USD swept doubles play and kept the momentum going into singles action by winning each singles contest. No. 74 Stephanie Hoffpauir earned her ninth singles win of the season by defeating Sophia Bergner 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
The win for the Toreros avenges last year's 4-3 loss to Denver in Boise, ID.
Facing the Hornets, USD captured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. The Toreros went on to win four of the six doubles matches as Laura Claus and Anna Depenau each posted their team-leading 14th singles wins of the year. Hoffpauir clinched the win with her 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 124 Tatsiana Kapshai, earning her second win over a ranked opponent this season.
The Toreros return to action on Wednesday, March 23rd when they host Illinois for a 1:30 p.m. match at the Hogan Tennis Center.
