LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The University of San Diego Torero softball team wrapped up the final day at the Eller Media Stadium Classic at UNLV Sunday afternoon as USD lost 7-0 to the University of Kansas Jayhawks.
The Toreros even out at 5-5 on the season with a 3-2 neutral site record.
The only game of the day for San Diego had them down 4-0 in the second inning to the Jayhawks and two more runs in the third inning leaving the Toreros down 6-0. San Diego's bats struggled as both teams recorded four hits on the day. Kansas added one more run in the fifth inning as they took a 7-0 lead. San Diego's Jessica Tieszen and Chelsea Kamai both recorded doubles for USD, however they were unable to cross homeplate.
From the circle, San Diego's Chelsea Velovich picked up the loss falling to 1-1 on the season pitching 2.2 innings of work striking out four batters. Jenny Lahitte pitching in relief working 3.1 innings of work striking out five batters.
The Toreros return to San Diego for the week to prepare for their second consecutive road trip traveling to UC Santa Barbara for the Gaucho Classic starting Friday, March 12. The Toreros will face UNLV twice, Wisconsin twice, and end with host UC Santa Barbara on Sunday.
