USD Women Cruise Past Boston College 7-0

March 8, 2011

SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The 29th-ranked University of San Diego women's tennis team put in a strong performance in sweeping the Boston College Eagles 7-0 at home on Tuesday afternoon from USD's Hogan Tennis Center. The Toreros (6-3) did not allow a singles match to go three sets, while the Eagles (6-4) fell to 0-3 all-time against the Toreros at USD's home court.

The Toreros wasted no time in winning the doubles point as Maja Sujica and Anna Depenau posted their fifth doubles victory of the season in defeating Katarina Gajic and Katharine Attwell 8-2. 70th-ranked Stephanie Hoffpauir and Juliette Coupez followed that up with the clinching win over Veronica Corning and Olga Khmylev 8-5 on court one.

With the doubles point in the bag, Josymar Escalona and Laura Claus almost let an early lead slip away at No. 2 but held off Erina Kikuchi and Alex Kelleher 9-8(2) to complete the doubles sweep.

Moving into singles action, USD kept the pressure on as Depenau earned the first Torero singles victory by cruising past Attwell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5. Depenau improved to a team-best 7-3 in dual singles while notching her team-leading 10th singles win overall.

Claus defeated Gajic 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 to keep the momentum going in USD's favor and Sujica clinched the match by taking down Khmylev 7-5, 6-3. Sujica is a perfect 4-0 in dual singles play on the year.

Finishing up singles action was Coupez, who won her third consecutive match by defeating Corning 6-4, 7-5, followed by Hoffpauir, ranked 96th in singles, who beat Kelleher 6-1, 7-5, and Escalona, who earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Kikuchi at No. 2.

The Toreros travel to Moraga, Calif. this weekend for a tournament in which USD will face West Coast Conference foes Saint Mary's and San Francisco. The first match is scheduled for Saturday against San Francisco with times still to be determined.
