SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 72 LSU on Sunday afternoon from the Hogan Tennis Center. USD (1-5) is in the midst of a four-match losing streak.
LSU (4-2) captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, while Anna Depenau and Maja Sujica registered the lone Torero doubles victory with their 8-5 win over Ebie Wilson and Ariel Morton at No. 3.
Depenau, Sujica, and Juliette Coupez each recorded singles victories for the Toreros, but it proved not enough against the Tigers. Coupez topped Whitney Wolf in three sets, 5-7, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2, while Depenau, playing in her first match at No. 3 this season, earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kaitlin Burns. Meanwhile, Sujica cruised past Keri Frankenberger 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5.
Marite Raygada lost a heartbreaker at No. 4 to Wilson. After taking the first set 6-4, Raygada lost in tiebreakers in the final two sets, 7-6(3) and 7-6(5).
USD now turns their attention to No. 1 Stanford, who they will face in Palo Alto, Calif. on Sunday, Feb. 26th at 11:00 am.
