Torero men suffer 4-3 defeat at Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's tennis team suffered a 4-3 upset at the hands of No. 32 Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon from the Degheri Tennis Center. USD (13-7, 4-2 WCC) came away with two of the three doubles matches to get the momentum going in their favor, but were unable to keep that momentum going into singles play.

Patrick Pohlmann and Thibaut Visy registered an 8-4 doubles win at No. 1, while Nikola Bubnic and Ciaran Fitzgerald joined them on the winning side with a 9-7 victory at No. 3.

Singles play saw No. 36 Bubnic's 10-match singles winning streak come to an end with a 6-4, 6-4 loss to No. 76 Kyle Dandan. On the winning side was Clarke Spinosa at No. 3, who topped Nicolas Vinel by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. No. 112 Visy also earned a win with his 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over Tom Pham at No. 4.

The Toreros wrap up regular season WCC action when they host Loyola Marymount on Tuesday, Apr. 17 for a 3:00 pm first serve.
