2013 All PFL Team
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego football team had 19 players selected by PFL coaches as all-league selections the PFL announced Tuesday morning. Senior defensive end Steve Gargiulo, senior running back Joe Ferguson, junior wide receiver Reggie Bell, and senior quarterback Mason Mills were All-PFL First Team selections.
The Toreros had 14 players named to either the First or Second team, which was tops in the league. On offense, seniors Sam Hoekstra and Montell Allen were joined on the PFL Second Team by three sophomore offensive linemen: Tobin Gramyk, Pono Keni, and Daniel Murray.
On defense, defensive linemen Blake Oliaro, linebackers Robbie Beathard and Zach Devaney, and defensive back Troy McClelland were picked to the second team. Freshman punter Ryan Belden, who led the league with a 43.6 yard average, was also a second team selection.
Additionally, five Toreros were honorable mention selections: WR Brandon White, RB Kenn James, LB Michael Ruffino, DB Jamal Agnew, and DB Matt Miller.
Mills, who was named PFL Offensive Player of the Year, completed 66 percent (256-of-388) of his passes for 3,463 yards and 35 touchdowns while only throwing five interceptions. Mills' 35 touchdown passes were third most in the FCS through the end of the regular season. He also ranked among the nation's top 15 in passing efficiency (168.1, 5th), passing yards per game (314.8, 7th) and completion percentage (13th).
Reggie Bell, who was an honorable mention selection last season, finished third in the PFL in receptions (65) and yards (1050) and hauled in nine touchdowns. Running back Joe Ferguson finished third in the league with 905 rushing yards while averaging an impressive 7.3 yards per carry. Defensive end Steve Gargiulo led the team in tackles for loss (14) and sacks (8.5) and forced two fumbles.
