LOS ANGELES, Calif. -The No. 38 University of San Diego men's tennis team (15-7, 5-1) knocked off LMU (3-17, 1-5) 5-2 Friday afternoon to earn their fifth conference win of the season. The win sets up a showdown with first place No. 7 Pepperdine tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.

The Toreros got off to a hot start in doubles, winning all three matches. Co-captains Clarke Spinosa and Thibaut Visy were the first to win, claiming an 8-3 victory at the No. 1. Ciaran Fitzgerald and Victor Pugliese followed that with an 8-5 win at the No. 3. Lastly, Romain Kalaydjian and Uros Petronijevicalso won 8-5 at the No. 2 to give the Toreros a 1-0 lead entering singles.

Spinosa and Visy set the tone in singles by quickly winning their matches. Spinosa, who is ranked No. 87, won 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 2. Visy followed that with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the No. 1.

Freshman Uros Petronijevicsealed the victory for the Toreros with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 4.

With the match already decided, Ciaran Fitzgerald continued his impressive season with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 5. The Lions picked up their first point after Nick Northcott outlasted Jakob Karnopp 6-1, 7-6 at the No. 6.

The last match went the Lions' way as well after Cristobal Rivera beat No. 110 Romain Kalaydjianin a third set tiebreaker at the No. 3 7-5, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).

The Toreros will take on No. 7 Pepperdine tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in a crucial WCC match. Pepperdine (19-4, 5-0) currently sits in a first place tie with BYU (17-4, 5-0) but plays Saint Mary's (9-10, 3-2) this evening. The top three teams receive a first round bye at the upcoming WCC Tournament.
