Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron was voted the National Women's Soccer League player of the month by the media for May, it was announced on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Cameron recorded four consecutive shutout win in the month to help Sky Blue to a 4-1-1 record. She stopped 17 consecutive shots on goal during the streak and has not allowed a goal in the last 360 minutes - and just only goal in the last 520 minutes.

Cameron said the award was something she did not expect to receive at the start of the season.

"I always believed in my talent but it's definitely a huge honor," Cameron said. "I know Christine Sinclair got it last month, so being in that award class with some of the greats is a real honor and a real pleasure."

The Dublin, Calif. native conceded three goals in six games in May for a 0.50 goals-agaisnt average. She also saved 27 of 30 shots on goal during the span.

"I've waited behind some great goalkeepers and it's my time to show what I can do," Cameron said. "My team and the coaching staff have been behind me a thousand percent, so this award is an extension of the way we've been playing as a unit."

The University of San Diego graduate, who also won the NWSL player of the week accolade for Week 1, leads the league with five shutouts and is tied with Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc for the league's best GAA at 0.5.

Sky Blue head coach Jim Gabarra said being recognized by the NWSL shows how well both Cameron and the rest of the team have played defensively.

"It's always difficult for a goalkeeper or a defender to get these types of awards so it makes it even more exciting," he said. "The whole team defends really well, but for Cameron to get this award really points out the key saves she's made and how she's coming up big for us."

Sky Blue returns to action against the Boston Breakers at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, N.J. at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The NWSL player of the month is selected each month of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
