SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Junior Romain Kalaydjian competed in the Battle in the Bay Classic at the California Tennis Club yesterday afternoon against top-tier opponents. 

Kalaydjian faced Billy Griffith, a freshman from UC Berkley in the first round. Griffith would not be slowed down, taking the match in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

The next opponent Kalaydjian faced proved to be a battle. Kalaydjian faced senior Rakshay Thakkar of Pepperine, a familiar foe. After Thakkar took the first set in a tiebreak, Kalaydjian battled back to take the second set 7-5. However, Thakkar gained back the momentum to take the super-tiebreak in the third set 10-5.

The Toreros return to action at the ITA Regional Championships next week, October 17-21, in Malibu, Calif. at Pepperdine University.
