SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's tennis team (4-7, 1-1 WCC) nearly swept the Cal State Fullerton Titans (3-10) Wednesday afternoon at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
The Toreros secured their second doubles point in a row after a complete sweep on all three courts. Senior captain Anna Depenau and Colomba DiFilippo got the team off to a great start knocking off Titans' Kalika Slevcove and Alexis Valenzuela 8-4. Idil Haciraifoglu and Mikayla Morkel-Brink followed on court three, pulling out the win over Megan Sanford and Melanie Abella 8-5. Sophomore duo Marta Stojanovic and Shani Blecher completed the shutout after defeating Titans' Morgan McIntosh and Camille De Leon 8-6.
In singles, Stojanovic came out the gate strong with a serve that proved to be unstoppable. Stojanovic defeated Titans' Morgan McIntosh 6-0, 6-1, and recorded her career high of seven aces. DiFilippo extended the Toreros' lead to three after knocking off Megan Sanford 6-2, 6-0. Depenau soon followed at the No. 3 spot, getting the victory over Titans' Camille De Leon 6-1, 6-1. Both Depenau and DiFilippo have won four singles matches in a row. With one point remaining to clinch the match, Haciraifoglu took the match against Kalika Slevcove 6-0, 6-4.
The last two matches of the day were held at the No. 6 and 1 spots. Morkel-Brink cruised past Titans' Jessica Pepa 6-0, 6-1, while the Titans' picked up their lone point of the day after Alexis Valenzuela defeated Shani Blecher 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(5).
The Toreros return to action on their home courts this Friday as they take on Furman University at 10:00 a.m. PT.
