SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's basketball team has learned they will host the first round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament on Thursday against Cal Poly inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.

"We are extremely excited to be playing in the postseason again," stated head coach Cindy Fisher. "We are looking forward to getting out and playing great home game against Cal Poly, who I think is just a quality opponent. Should be fun."

This marks the third consecutive WNIT appearance for the Toreros, and fourth appearance in the WNIT in program history. USD has posted a record of 5-3 in WNIT games, having reached as far as the Final Four just two seasons ago, before falling to eventual WNIT champion Oklahoma State.

San Diego is coming off their third consecutive 20-win season, as the Toreros finished the 2013-14 regular-season with a 22-8 overall record, marking the best record in program history. San Diego is paced offensively by All-WCC first-team selection Amy Kame, who is averaging 16.6 ppg, while leading the team in assists with 117 and steals with 65. All-WCC honorable mention honorees Malina Hood (12.7 ppg) and Felicia Wijenberg (10.4 ppg) are the two other active Toreros averaging double figures.

Cal Poly enters the game with an overall record of 18-13 after falling to Cal State Northridge in the Big West Conference Tournament championship game. The Toreros lead the all-time series at 9-8, but Cal Poly did take the last meeting, a 69-50 decision in San Louis Obispo back on Nov. 17, 2012. A pair of 17.3 ppg scorers in Ariana Elegado and Molly Schlemer paces the Mustangs offensively. Joane Erving is the only other Mustang averaging double figures at 11.7 ppg. The Mustangs are under the direction of 17th-year head coach Faith Mimnaugh, who is 234-258 in her career in San Luis Obispo.

The winner of this game will face the winner of the Washington State and Montana game, on a date and site yet to be determined.
