SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The No. 55 University of San Diego men's tennis team (10-7, 5-0 WCC) cruised past the University of San Francisco Dons 6-1 (9-12, 0-6 WCC) Saturday afternoon at the Olympic Tennis Club.
The Toreros had no problem in doubles, quickly securing the point at the No. 1 and 3 spots. The No. 46 pair, Clarke Spinosa and Filip Vittek, took down Dons' Bernardo Saraiva and Nils Skajaa 8-0, while juniors Ciaran Fitzgerald and Andrew Raphaelson defeated Germain Bahri and Thomas Takemoto 8-3.
Vittek kept up a solid performance, getting the first singles win after defeating Dons' Germain Bahri 6-4, 6-2. This was Vittek's third win in a row. Fitzgerald extended the Torero lead, with an identical score over Christian Brockstedt. That momentum would lift sophomores Uros Petronijevic over Nils Skajaa 7-6(2), 6-3 and Romain Kalaydjian over Thomas Takemoto 6-3, 7-5.
The Toreros' final point of the day came from court six. After dropping the second set Raphaelson battled it out in a tight tiebreak, but pulling out the victory over Dons' Timothy Tan 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(5).
The Toreros return to action against cross-town rival San Diego State this Wednesday at their home courts, at 3:00 p.m. PT.
