CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The University of San Diego men's tennis team ended their first tournament for the 2014-15 season at the Harvard Chowder Fest this morning on a high note. After not dropping a singles match all weekend, junior Uros Petronijevic was crowned the Dale Junta '58 Player of the Tournament. The Toreros leave the east coast taking the title for the second year in a row.
The Toreros gave another impressive performance this morning in singles play, taking five out of the six matches. Junior Jordan Angus got the victory over University of South Florida's Vadym Kalyuzhnyy 7-5, 7-6, while senior Ciaran Fitzgerald defeated Harvard's Henry Steer 6-3, 6-3.
Sophomore Filip Vittek went undefeated in singles as well, cruising past South Florida's Ignacio Gonzalez 6-2, 6-3. Junior Romain Kalaydjian also had a solid day, defeating Harvard's Shaun Chauhuri 6-2, 6-2. However, it was No. 121 Petronijevic who kicked off his season with a bang, winning five matches over the weekend. "We played really well today," Head coach Brett Masi expressed after the tournament. "I challenged the boys to compete their hardest and be positive, even though I knew they were tired. This was a great first weekend for us and I'm looking forward the rest of the fall."
