TULSA, Ok. – The University of San Diego men’s tennis team’s Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek competed in the ITA All-American Championships qualifying bracket for doubles. The fifth-seeded pair showed no mercy this afternoon, winning their first two rounds in straight sets.
The newly paired team, who received a pre-season ranking of No. 28, faced Valparaiso in their first round. Although neck and neck for the majority of the match, Angus and Vittek took down Valpo’s Charlie Emhardt and Jeffrey Schorsch 6-4, 7-6(4). Soon after, the tandem took down TCU’s Trey Daniel and Trevor Johnson 6-4, 6-1.
“They played solid doubles today in both matches,” Head coach Brett Masi said after the match. “Jordan and Filip are starting to get used to each other and work together. We served really well today so, hopefully we can do the same tomorrow. If we do, we can have a great chance at qualifying.”
Angus and Vittek return to action tomorrow to compete in the last round of qualifying.
