Sept. 29, 2014

TULSA, Ok – The University of San Diego men’s tennis team competed in the qualifying rounds in singles at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma Monday afternoon. While sophomore Filip Vittek picked up a win in the consolation bracket, juniors Uros Petronijevic and Jordan Angus fell in the first rounds.

Although keeping the momentum strong in the first set, Angus dropped a tight, three-set match against UNLV's Denys Pume 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(7). On the other side of the bracket, Petronijevic struggled against North Carolina State’s Nick Horton, falling 6-3, 6-2.

However, the Toreros finished their singles run on a high note. Vittek competed in a thrilling match versus Nebraska’s Andrew Dzulynsky. After dropping a first-set tiebreak 7-4, Vittek came back to win the second set by an identical score and later taking the match 6-3 in the final set. Petronijevic also won his match in the consolation bracket, taking down Joao Monteiro of Virginia Tech 6-3, 6-3.
