MALIBU, Calif - Doubles pair Jordan Angus and Filip Vittek (No. 17) won the ITA Regional Championship on Monday after defeating Petr Iamachkine and Lautoro Pane of Pepperdine 6-4, 6-3 in the finals.
Head Coach Ryan Keckley was impressed with the duo's composure against stiff competition.
"Jordan and Filly did an unbelievable job this week in Malibu. As the No. 1 seed in the tournament, they had a target on their back from the very beginning and handled the pressure like two experienced players should. They competed with confidence and determination, and came up clutch during pivotal moments. Capturing nine of the eleven deciding points is no easy task and it certainly helped shift the momentum in our favor. There was a lot riding on today and I am very proud of the way they handled the pressure. Hats off to the Pepperdine team for a great run as well. It is never easy facing the Waves, especially in Malibu. I look forward to the few weeks of preparation we have before we head to New York!"
Angus and Vittek will be joining Uros Petronijevic at the ITA National Indoor Championships in New York, N.Y. on Nov. 12.
Pratt Keerasuntonpong and Alexandros Araouzos also picked up victories on Monday in the Third Consolation Bracket. Keerasuntopong beat Guilherme Galvao 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 while Araouzos topped Grand Canyon's Adrian Legarreta 7-5, 7-5.
