Oct. 29, 2015 LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Toreros Men's tennis team took to the court at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships on Thursday, hosted by UCLA.
Joshua Page, a junior, was one of two Toreros in the singles main draw on Thursday. Page started the day with a 7-6(5), 6-2 defeat of UC Santa Barbara's Cody Rakela. In the second round Page was topped by Logan Smith from USC 6-3, 6-4.
James Ponwith dropped his first match in the main singles draw 6-3, 7-5 to UCSB's Morgan Mays. Ponwith also played in the singles qualifying bracket where he beat Concordia's Man Hon Ko 7-6(2), 6-1. Tomorrow he will face Cal Poly's Axel Damiens.
Freshman Pratt Keerasuntonpong battled with LMU's Jamie Thorp in the qualifying bracket but ultimately dropped the match 6-1, 6-7, 10-5. Later in the day he bested Richard Han of UCSD 7-5, 6-3 in the consolation bracket where he will play Azusa Pacific's Shepherd Newcomb tomorrow.
In doubles play Keerasuntonpong and Ponwith advance to the quarterfinals of the qualifying bracket after beating Aiku Shintani and Timothy Tan of Cal Poly 8-7(4). Tomorrow they will face David Laser and Kaiman Boyd from USC. They will also take part in the main draw tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. when they face Morgan Mays and Andrew Riminton from UCSB.
