SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 30 University of San Diego men's tennis team (11-4, 2-0 WCC) advanced to the final round of the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic Friday afternoon at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. The Toreros grabbed their second victory against a top-ranked opponent this week, defeating the No. 32 Princeton Tigers 4-0.

The Tigers came out the gate solid at the No. 1 and 3 spots as doubles play began. On the other hand, doubles tandem juniors Uros Petronijevic and Romain Kalaydjian comfortably got the victory over Tigers' Diego Vives and Luke Gamble 6-1. Princeton stayed alive as they equalized at the No. 3 spot. Although junior Jordan Angus and sophomore Filip Vittek struggled early in the set, the pair started to find their rhythm. From 5-2 down, Angus and Vittek came back to defeat Tigers' No. 56 Zack McCourt and Thomas Colautti 7-6(2) and clinched the doubles point.

"Getting our doubles line-up back is always good," Head coach Brett Masi expressed after the match. "It has been our strongest line-up this season. To get the break back at the No. 1 spot and clinch the point gave us the momentum in singles. We just rolled with it all match."

In singles, the Toreros grabbed the first set on all six courts. Angus, who is riding a four-match winning streak, got the Toreros on the board with a straight-set win over Tigers' Alexander Day. Sophomore Geoffrey Fosso followed knocking off Kial Kaiser 6-3, 6-2.

Up 3-0, both Vittek and Kalaydjian were closing in on their second sets. After a comfortable first set, Vittek was able to pull out the win and clinch the match for the Toreros defeating Princeton's Thomas Colautti 6-1, 7-6(2).

"Really happy with how the guys competed today," Masi said. "Especially Jordan, that was one of the better matches I saw Jordan play and to comeback in doubles - really set the tone for the entire match. Tomorrow, we have the same mindset we did today. We want to play well, bring good energy, and play smart. Today was a great team effort with every guy supporting one another. Drake is going to bring it, but I think our emotions will dictate a lot of how the match will go."

The Toreros get set for the finals of the Spring Classic against No. 33 Drake, Saturday, March 21st at 2:00 p.m. - PT.
