LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 32 University of San Diego men's tennis team (8-3, 2-0 WCC) had their winning streak come to an end against the No. 6 University of Southern California Trojans (11-2) Thursday afternoon at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. The Toreros executed a strong doubles performance, but were unable to stop the Trojans in singles play.

Winning their last eight doubles points, the Toreros came out the gate with confidence and motivation. Although doubles tandem Yannick Hanfmann and Roberto Quiroz, who are ranked No. 2 nationally, were too solid at the No. 1 spot, senior Ciaran Fitzgerald and sophomore Geoffrey Fosso answered with a 7-5 victory over USC's Tanner Smith and Thibault Forget. At 1-1, the point came down to juniors Romain Kalaydjian and Uros Petronijevic at the No. 2 spot. The duo battled it out against Trojans' 30th-ranked Eric Johnson and Max de Vroome and prevailed in a neck and neck tiebreaker 7-6(6).

As singles commenced, the Trojans gainined back the lead after victories at the No. 4 and 5 spots. However, No. 115 Petronijevic took back some momentum. Petronijevic grabbed his biggest victory of the season, taking down No. 6 Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets. Trojans' No. 20 Roberto Quiroz picked up the lead for Southern California defeating No. 68 sophomore Filip Vittek 7-6(6), 6-2. The Trojans would hold on to their edge the remainder of the match

Although dropping the first set to USD, No. 45-ranked Nick Crystal got the victory over Fitzgerald 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to clinch the team victory.

The Toreros will stay in La Jolla to compete in the 126th Annual Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship (March 5-8) held at the same venue. This year's annual doubles event will feature top-ranked collegiate athletes, former professionals, and everything in between. The Toreros have competed in the Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship for the last six seasons.
