REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- In the final day of head-to-head dual racing at the Stanford Invite, the University of San Diego men's rowing team dominated the water, as all three boats posted first place wins, with the Varsity 8 and 2V8 defeating Santa Clara University and the 3V8 defeating the Cal Lightweights.
The USD Varsity 8 defeated Santa Clara in the first race of the day for the Toreros by approximately a boat length and a half ahead of the Broncos with a time of 6-minutes, 00.5-seconds nearly five seconds before the Santa Clara boat crossed the finish.
The Varsity 8 consisted of Rory Kew, Henri Hicks, Nick Watson, Will Bastien, Taylor Terheggen, Alex La Bruno, John Bacic, Patrick McPolin.and was coxed by Torrey Ray.
San Diego's 2V8 boat had a line-up switch at the coxswain position, as Kai Morse was added for this race, and he along with Ryan Sandy, Hayden Town, Sam Stephens, Mike Mohrman, Parker Danz, Jack Pokalsky, Brandon de Caussin, Pierce Salamack also found themselves finish in first place, as they posted a time of 6:14.4, which was nine seconds faster than the Broncos boat.
The 3V8 boat of Berkley Brown (coxswain), Luke Uetrecht, Sam Schelonka, Parker Brooks, Daniel Hearst, Konrad Altvater, Spencer Currey, Andrew Thomas, Nick Bea was able to complete the sweep, as they had the largest margin of victory of any Torero boat today posting a time of 6:21.1, which was 10.0 seconds faster than the Cal Lightweights boat.
San Diego will return to action on May 9, as they will head up to Orange County to compete in the Newport Regatta, hosted by Orange Coast College.
