SAN BRUNO, Calif. --
The University of San Diego women's tennis team (3-14, 2-7 WCC) earned two postseason accolades. The West Coast Conference honored junior Dana Oppinger (Weingarten, Germany) and freshman Drew Spinosa (Claremont, California), the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Both Oppinger and Spinosa are in their first year with the Torero program.

Freshman Drew Spinosa has been a standout competitor in the Torero program as she earned an Honorable Mention selection for singles. Spinosa and partner Dana Oppinger were named Honorable Mention selections in doubles as well. Both players receive West Coast Conference postseason accolades for the first time in their collegiate careers.

Spinosa, who plays primarily at the No. 2 spot in singles, has undoubtedly been a crucial factor to the Toreros' success in her first season at USD. The freshman posts the team's second-most conference victories, while defeating players hailing from No. 56 Hawai'i and No. 64 Brigham Young. Spinosa, a native of Claremont, Calif., boasts a dual season record of 7-8 while going 3-5 versus league opponents.

In addition to her singles success, Spinosa and partner Dana Oppinger, a transfer from Marshall University, claim an ITA ranking of No. 87 in the nation. The pair is no stranger to West Coast Conference honors and they received WCC Player of the Week recognition earlier this season (March 3, 2015). The dynamic duo, who play at the No. 1 spot, posted an undefeated mark in doubles play for the first six weeks of the dual season (6-0). Since then, Oppinger and Spinosa have defeated squads from No. 56 Hawai'i, No. 37 Arizona, and No. 55 Portland, while cracking the ITA national rankings as well (April 14, 2015). The tandem holds down an overall record of 12-7 and dual season record of 9-6.

"My first year of college tennis has been a great learning experience for me and a lot of fun at the same time," Spinosa expressed. "Our team has had a tough season this year as we suffered a few injuries, but I am really proud of how we competed. I am excited to receive Honorable Mention in singles and doubles this year, as Nadia and Sherri have been working hard with me to improve my game -- I can see how it has been paying off. I look forward to the conference tournament and know our team can finish strong."

The Toreros, who received the ninth seed at the West Coast Conference Championships (April 22-25, 2015), look forward to their first match-up against the Pacific Tigers (8-12, 2-7 WCC) on Wednesday, April 23rd. The squad is set to play at 12:00 p.m. -- PT.
