STOCKTON, Calif. -- The University of San Diego women's tennis team (2-11, 1-5 WCC) competed tough in a match consisting of crucial third sets Saturday afternoon at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts. The Toreros were edged by the Pacific Tigers (8-8, 2-3 WCC) in their last road match of the season.

The Toreros struggled to make headway in doubles play. The Tigers' Francis Dean and Gergana Boncheva got the first point on the board defeating sophomores Janine Koleta and Marisa Marsh 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. While juniors Mikayla Morkel-Brink and Marta Stojanovic were leading in their set, the Tigers clinched at the No. 1 spot.

The Tigers extended their lead to three after straight-set decisions at the No. 5 and 6 spots. However, the Toreros would not go down without a fight. Dana Oppinger solidified critical sets to get the Toreros back on track. The junior defeated Tigers' Francis Dean 6-4, 6-4. 

With the remaining matches going into third sets, it was anybody's match. As freshman Drew Spinosa made her debut at the No. 1 spot, Tigers' Iveta Masarova rebounded to take the third set and secure the match for Pacific (4-6, 6-1, 6-1).

While Stojanovic also fell in her third set decision, Morkel-Brink prevailed -- coming back from a set down and defeating Tigers' Cristina Saenz de Buruaga 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The Toreros return to action next Thursday, April 9^th (1:30 p.m. -- PT) at home against the Portland Pilots.
