Men's Basketball sign Ryan Woolridge to NLI

May 20, 2015

(San Diego, Calif.) - University of San Diego men's basketball head coach Lamont Smith and his staff is excited to announce that they have signed guard Ryan Woolridge (Mansfield, TX) to a national letter of intent (NLI) and scholarship agreement for the upcoming 2015-16 school year. Woolridge becomes the third guard from the state of Texas to sign with the Toreros this spring, joining Tyler Williams (Plano, TX) and Olin Carter III (Allen, TX).

"Ryan Woolridge is an exciting addition to our Men's Basketball program," stated head coach Lamont Smith. "His ability to operate in the open court and break down the defense in the half court will be instrumental for our style of play. Ryan is a high character young man with outstanding values. He will be an asset to our University, basketball program and community. "

Ryan Woolridge, a 6'3", 170 lbs. guard, played at Lake Ridge High School in Mansfield, Texas. This past season he helped guide the Eagles to a 24-8 overall record and 11-4 mark in District play. A penetrating point guard who can distribute and score, Woolridge averaged 17.3 points, 6.1 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 steals per game.

Following his 26-point outing in a 59-56 win over Waxahachie High School this past January, Lake Ridge Coach Donte Wilson had this to say about Ryan's performance. "He plays at a different pace. He makes everybody run. He makes the officials run; he makes both teams run, he makes the cameraman run. He just plays at a different pace."

He was selected co-Offensive Player of the Year for District 14-5A, and named First Team Super Team (Star-Telegram). He earned a spot on the Whataburger All-Tournament Team. In the 5th place game against Summit in the Whataburger Tournament, Woolridge chipped in with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Woolridge recently competed in the Metroplex24 High School Basketball All-Star Game on May 16th in Dallas and was joined by future Torero teammates Olin Carter III and Tyler Williams on the Red Team.

The above Texas trio will be joined by incoming freshman Alex Floresca, a 6'8" power forward from Webster Groves, Missouri (Webster HS), who committed last November during the early signing period.
