Nov. 10, 2016

SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" Head women's basketball coach Cindy Fisher of the University of San Diego has announced the signing of three players to a National Letter of Intent. Joining the Toreros in 2017-18 will be Kendall Bird, Sydney Hunter and Myah Pace.

Bird is a 6-2 power forward who has had a standout career thus far at White River High School in Buckley, Washington. Kendall has seen her points-per-game average rise each of her first three seasons, as she scored 13.7 ppg as a freshman, 16.8 ppg as a sophomore, and 19.5 ppg as a junior. After Kendall's junior season, she cracked into the school's 1,000 career point club, while leading her team to the West Central District 3 Championship for the second time during her career, as well as back to back South Puget Sound League (SPSL) champions. She is a three-time First-Team All-SPSL selection and a two-time All-State Tournament team selection. In her junior season, Kendall was named SPSL Co-MVP and to the Associated Press All-State Team.

"Kendall is an extremely powerful and athletic post player who will bring a strong presence to our post game," stated Fisher. "Her ability to stretch the defense and be a low block presence will make her very difficult to guard for our opponents. Kendall is an amazing person and a tremendous student athlete; she will make an immediate impact in our program."

Kendall Bird

Bird's accolades were not limited to basketball, as she earned three varsity letters in volleyball. She has led her volleyball team to back to back championships while earning First-Team All-SPSL honors each corresponding year. She was recently named the SPSL Volleyball Player of the Year.

Kendal was recruited by Idaho State University, the University of Montana, the University of Pacific and Seattle University.

"I chose to attend USD because of the family atmosphere of the team, the competitiveness of the coaching staff, the beautiful west coast location, and campus," stated Bird.

Hunter is a versatile 6-0 guard from Keizer, Oregon who will be joining the Toreros after an outstanding career at McNary High School. As a junior, she received the conference honor of First-Team All-Greater Valley after averaging 10.8 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 2.1 spg. In her junior year, Sydney led her team to a school record 23 wins, and a fourth place finish in the state playoffs. As a sophomore, she earned Second-Team All-Greater Valley conference honors.

"Sydney is a very athletic and versatile forward," said Fisher. "Her speed, quickness and defensive presence will be a huge asset to our program. Sydney can play inside or outside and will create a lot of match up problems. In our defensive system, Sydney will be a major contributor right away."

Sydney Hunter

Hunter is a multi-sport athlete at McNary High School. She has lettered in volleyball and track and field. As a result of Sydney's contributions, her volleyball and track and field team were State qualifiers.

Sydney was recruited by several other universities including UC Davis, Gonzaga, Cal Poly, New Mexico, Air Force, Kansas, Long Beach State, UNLV, Weber State, Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara and Portland State.

Hunter stated, "I chose to attend USD because I love the campus, and was really impressed with the coaching staff and people."

Pace is a 5'10 combo guard from Oakland, California who will join the Toreros after being a major contributor and leader at nationally ranked Bishop O'Dowd High School. Myah is a four-star recruit, who is ranked the 65th best player in the country and the 14th best guard in the nation according to ESPNW's 2017 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings. As a junior, she averaged a double-double for the Dragons scoring 13.0 ppg, while pulling down 10.0 rpg. For her performance, Myah was named the WACC League Co-MVP and Star Playerz Oakland Girls Player of the Year. She was a three peat WACC First Team honoree while being named to serval All Tournament Teams throughout her junior year. The honors didn't end there as she was named All-East Bay first-team, All-Metro second-team, and awarded the prestigious Jim Capoot Memorial Award at the West Coast Jamboree Tournament. Entering her senior season at O'Dowd, Myah is close to eclipsing the 1,000 career point mark, as well as, the 1,000 career rebound mark. When she achieves both of these numbers, she will be only the second player in school history to do so.

Myah Pace

"We are thrilled to add Myah to our program," explained Fisher. "Her athleticism and versatility is amazing and her ability to score in a variety of ways is so fun to watch. Myah is a player that we have been watching for many years and feel very fortunate to have a player and student athlete of her caliber join our Torero family. Myah comes from a very successful high school and club program that knows and expects to win. She will make an immediate impact on our program."

Pace was also highly recruited by Butler, Boise State, Columbia, Princeton, and Seton Hall.

"I chose USD because of the people, the program, and the school. My family and I love Coach Fisher and Coach Mary Ann, Coach Trevor, Coach Mery, and Coach Steph," explained Pace. "The girls are awesome, there is a great family atmosphere! On my visit I felt right at home and learned a lot about how great the school is as well! The girls play hard and work hard, and I cannot wait to be apart of the family next year!"
