Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Toreros women's tennis team (3-1, 1-0 WCC) beat the University of the Pacific Tigers (2-3, 0-1 WCC) 4-1 on Saturday at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.

USD started the day with Shani Blecher and Marta Stojanovic earning a dominating 6-0 win in the No. 2 doubles spot against Maayan Sela and Katie Dyson. Drew Spinosa and Dana Oppinger secured the doubles point after defeating Viktoriya Dzyuba and Cristina Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz 6-4 in the top spot.

"The doubles point was huge because that sets the tone for the singles." Said assistant coach Nadia Abdala. "The one and three matches were tough, so we were happy to have Drew and Dana close out the point."

Colomba DiFilippo and Maria-Paula Torres were locked in a 5-5 battle with Yuki Asami and Anneroos Nedersigt when the match was abandoned.

Blecher picked up where she left off earning a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Sabrina Rodriguez in singles play. Pacific earned their first and only point with a 6-3, 6-0 Sela win over Sophia Chow but it would be all Toreros the rest of the way.

In the No. 1 singles spot Stojanovic topped Dzyuba in straight-sets 6-3, 6-3. DiFilippo secured the USD victory 6-2, 6-3 over Asami to give the Toreros their first WCC win of the season.

"We're very excited, this is very important." Abdala said of the WCC win. "We lost to them last season and it's always huge to earn a conference win."

Spinosa was leading Saenz de Buruaga Ruiz 6-4, 5-2 before the match was discontinued while Oppinger trailed Dyson 6-3, 5-1.

The Toreros will be on the road in Arizona next weekend. The team will be in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday to play the No. 65 Arizona Wildcats and travel to Tempe, Ariz. Saturday to meet the No. 27 Arizona State Sun Devils.
