Final Stats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The USD women's tennis team (1-1) competed in the second day of their season opening weekend on Sunday. The Toreros went up against Cal State Fullerton but lost in a tough dual ending in a 4-3 score.

Cal State Fullerton managed to win the doubles point of the dual after winning two of the three matches. First to finish was the No. 2 doubles team Nicole Anderson and Maria-Paula Torres. They won their match against Sarah Nuno and Karla Portalatin 6-1. In the No. 1 doubles spot, Colomba DiFilippo and Daniela Morales lost their match to the No. 1 CSF doubles team of Camille De Leon and Alexis Valenzuela (6-4). Last to finish was the No. 3 team of Gemma Garcia and new Torero Katharina Kukaras. They lost to CSF's Masako Makiba and Danielle Pham in a tight game with a score of 7-6 (4).

In singles play the Toreros were able to take three of the six points available. First to finish and with one of the three wins in singles play was the No. 5 singles player, Katharina Kukaras. She defeated CSF's Masako Makiba with a dominating score of 6-0, 6-1. Next to finish with another win for USD was Colomba DiFilippo, who defeated Danielle Pham 6-1, 6-3, in the No. 6 spot.

At the No. 4 spot, Maria-Paula Torres lost her match next to Sarah Nuno 6-2, 7-6 (4). Daniela Morales won the last point for USD when she played in the No. 3 spot against Karla Portalatin and won with a score of 6-4, 6-4. The last two to finish were Gemma Garcia (No. 1) and Nicole Anderson (No. 2), who both lost their matches.

USD women's tennis now has a 1-1 record for the 2017 spring season. Next weekend they play at Hawaii University at 2 p.m. PT.
