SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The San Diego Toreros continued on their conference win streak Sunday afternoon. USD defeated Portland 4-0, which improved their record to 7-9 (3-0 WCC). The Portland Pilots fell to 11-3 (2-2 WCC).
USD clinched the doubles point after wins on courts two and three. Colomba DiFilippo and Daniela Morales fell to Portland's No. 1 team first, 3-6. On court three, however, the Maria-Paula Torres and Sophia Chow duo battled out a 6-4 win over Portland's Emily Soares and Anna Oberg. Gemma Garcia and Jessica Regehr were the pair to clinch the doubles point for USD. They defeated Radina Dimitrova and Tatiana Grigoryan in a tie breaker, 7-6 (4).
In singles play the Toreros kept up their momentum, and won the next three matches. Colomba DiFilippo defeated Grigoryan first in a quick 6-2, 6-2 decision. Daniela Morales followed suit and toppled Dimitrova 6-3, 6-3. And to finish out the day, Gemma Garcia clinched the match for USD with her 7-5, 6-1 win over Jelena Lazarevic.
The Toreros are undefeated in conference play and hold a 3-0 record. They have defeated BYU, Gonzaga and Portland this season. Next up the Toreros will play Pacific, April 7 at 1:30 p.m.
