Toreros Win First Round of the WCC Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Toreros won big Thursday morning in their match against Loyola Marymount. San Diego downed the Lions 4-1 in the first round of the WCC Championship. The Toreros move on to the second round to play No. 11 Pepperdine on Friday morning.

The Toreros started off the match with fire that lead to a win in doubles play. Colomba DiFilippo and Nicole Anderson won their match againgt Anna Romeka and Siobhan Anderson on court two, 7-5. The powerhouse duo of Sophia Chow and Maria-Paula Torres won their seventh conference doubles match against Camila Tumosa and Julia Norlin, 7-5.

San Diego pushed their lead forward in singles play, and won on courts one, four, and six. Anderson defeated Jessica Perez at the No. 1 spot, 6-4, 6-2, DiFilippo won her eighth conference match on court four against Romeka in a 6-3, 6-3 decision. And Chow won her second match of the day on court six, 6-3, 6-1.

The Toreros move on to the second round of the WCC Championships tomorrow at 10 a.m.
