SAN FRANCISCO— Madison Pollock recorded her first double-double of the season but San Diego fell to San Francisco, 68-57, to open conference play.

The Toreros (7-5, 0-1 WCC) struggled from the field, shooting 31 percent on 22-of-71 and just 1-of-7 from three-point range. The Dons (5-7, 1-0 WCC) used a strong offensive surge in the second half (51 percent, 15-of-29) to secure the victory.
Pollock recorded a season-high 20 points to lead the Toreros and tied with
Sydney Hunter for a team-high 11 rebounds.
Patricia Brossmann chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, while
Sydney Shepard finished the night with a team-high five assists.
Myah Pace added nine points and topped the team on defense with four steals and a block.

It was a slow start for both teams, with the Toreros shooting 27 percent (6-of-22) while the Dons shot 35 percent (6-of-17) in the first quarter. San Francisco then outscored San Diego 16-8 in the second period to secure the lead for the remainder of the contest.
The Toreros pulled within four points with 2:20 left in the third quarter before the Dons went on a 14-0 run extend their lead again and never looked back.

San Diego held advantages in points off turnovers (18-11), second chance points (16-12) and fast-break points (9-4) while San Francisco outscored the Toreros in the paint (38-30) and from three-point land (21-3).Â

The Dons saw solid production from their bench, scoring 23 points compared to USD's seven, while the Toreros collected 19 offensive rebounds compared to USF's nine.

The Toreros will look to bounce back when they travel to Santa Clara on Monday at 2 p.m. PT.
