Final Stats

San Diego, Calif. - The San Diego Toreros (2-4) competed against their cross-town rival San Diego State (5-3) Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. After losing the doubles point the women came back defeat the Aztecs, 4-2, in singles play.

Nicole Anderson and Daniela Morales were the only USD doubles team to come out on top against the Aztecs. They defeated Jana Buth and Paola Diaz 6-3 at the No. 2 spot. While SDSU was able to win the doubles point, the Toreros fought back in singles play.

Morales, who played at the No. 2 position, was the first to win. She defeated Madga Aubets in a quick two-set match, 6-1, 6-3. Maria-Paula Torres played at the No. 5 spot and beat Nnena Nadozie 6-3, 6-0.

The Toreros two match win streak was broken by SDSU's Paola Diaz who played USD's Gemma Garcia at the No. 4 position. Garcia lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.

Kati Kukaras quickly made a come back for the Toreros with her victory over Jenny Moinard. She played at the No. 3 spot and beat out Moinard with a 6-2, 6-4 decision.

The final fight took place on the No. 1 singles court. USD's Nicole Anderson and SDSU's Buth battled it out though three sets. Anderson came out at the victor with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win. Anderson's point clinched the victory for the Toreros.

SDSU's Abbie Mulbarger and Carolin Nonnenmacher, who played at the No. 6 spot, left their match unfinished in the third set, 2-6, 7-5, 2-5.

USD will return to their home courts on Sunday February 18 to play Cal Poly at 10 a.m.
