TUCSON, AZ â€" The USD women's tennis competed well against the host Arizona Wildcats but came away with a tough 4-3 decision at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center. The deciding singles match came down to the No. 3 spot with Camila Wesbrooks escaping with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 decision over Kati Kukaras.
After earning the doubles point with wins from Morales/Kukaras at No. 2 and Garcia/Nonnenmacher at No. 3, the Toreros jumped ahead 2-0 in the match after Nicole Anderson earned a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Devin Chypyha at the No. 1 single spot. Arizona took a 3-2 lead following three straight singles wins including three-set matches on the No. 4 and No. 2 courts. Maria-Paula Torres evened the match at 3-all with a 6-4, 7-6 decision over Marie Van Aelst at No. 5 singles before Arizona clinched with Wesbrooks' victory.
USD returns to the Skip and Cindy Logan Tennis Courts on February 8th with a 1:30 p.m. match against Hawaii.
