SAN DIEGO – San Diego scored a goal in the third minute of the match and never looked back, to secure a 5-2 win against cross-town rival San Diego State at Torero Stadium Friday night.
The Toreros (3-2-1) offense dominated the Aztecs (2-4), recording a season-high five goals and holding advantages in shots, 15-12, and corner kicks, 5-3.
Kelsi Dantu led USD with two goals, one in each half.
Mina Ghazizadeh scored the first goal for USD from the top of the goal box, off a rebound by SDSU. The Aztecs defense blocked Ghazizadeh's first shot from ten yards out but gave up a rebound that she finished to the left. It was Ghazizadeh's first goal of the season.
Dantu extended the lead in the 34th minute, with a shot from ten yards out, right below the cross bar to put the Toreros up, 2-0.
SDSU responded by scoring at the end of the first half. Sarah Broacha shot from the left box to the top right corner of the goal, just out of reach for
Amber Michel to put the score at 2-1.

Milan Moses scored the third goal for the Toreros in the second half. She outran the Aztecs defense along the right side of the penalty box and scored with a shot to the left post. Moses leads the team with three goals this year.
Summer Mason contributed to USD's deadly offense, with her goal in the 64th minute. She dribbled the ball from the 50 yards to the left side of the penalty box. Mason slashed inside and shot from the top of the box to the top-right corner, recording her second goal for the season.
Dantu finished off the scoring for USD in the 75th minute, with her second and final goal of the match.
Michaela Foster passed to Lauren Fuehr, who sent a cross to Dantu from the left side. With the SDSU goalie on the ground, Dantu had a clear shot to the back left corner of the net.
Amber Michel played in goal 79 minutes and made five saves. Her best stop came 73rd minute, when SDSU's Chloe Frisch took a shot off a block by
Mina Ghazizadeh. Michel made a diving save to the left post to keep the score at 5-1.
The Aztec's scored their last goal with three minutes left in the match, but it was too late to make up the difference. The Torero's won the cross-town rivalry, 5-2.
USD will look to extend its two-game winning streak when it takes on No. 4 USC at McAlister Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. (PT).
