MALIBU, Calif.—Leticia Soares scored a game-high 17 points but it was not enough as San Diego fell to Pepperdine, 88-65, on Thursday night at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Four Toreros (8-13, 1-9 WCC) reached double-digit scoring but USD could not keep pace with the high-powered Waves (12-8, 6-4 WCC) offense that finished the night 32-of-56 (57 percent) from the field and 8-of-13 from three-point range.
In addition to Soares,
Sydney Hunter,

The Waves offense came out red-hot in the first quarter, hitting 80 percent from the field on 12-of-15 shooting, with three 3-pointers to take a 29-13 lead. USD struggled offensively to start, shooting 33 percent (5-of-15) and 1-of-5 from behind the arc.
Aminata Dosso provided a spark for San Diego in the second quarter, scoring seven of the Toreros 17 points, but USD still trailed 30-48 at the half.
The Toreros kept pace with the Waves in the second half, minimizing turnovers and shooting 40 percent from the field to match the Pepperdine offense. However, the Waves maintained a comfortable lead for the remainder of the contest on their way to the series sweep over USD.
The Waves held a slight advantage off the glass, collecting 35 rebounds compared to USD's 30. The Toreros dominated second chance points 19-10 and owned a 16-11 advantage in offensive boards.
