SAN DIEGO—San Diego extended an 11-match winning streak in a 3-0 victory over Santa Clara on Thursday night in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

In their annual Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Toreros (13-4, 6-0 WCC) took straight sets 25-23, 25-22, 25-18 over the Broncos (12-6, 2-3 WCC) for their 10th sweep of the season.

Thana Fayad and
Megan Jacobsen paced USD offensively, collecting 10 kills apiece. Fayad earned her fifth double-double of the season, collecting 10 digs and adding two blocks to finish with a team-high 11.0 points. Jacobsen continued to be USD's most efficient attacker, hitting at a .471 clip and adding one block to finish with 10.5 points.

Grace Frohling and
Katie Lukes both added eight kills and the Toreros finished with a .198 hitting percentage.

Lauren Turner and libero
Annie Benbow led the Toreros defensively and USD held the Broncos to a .094 hitting percentage. Turner registered a team-high six blocks, while Benbow paced USD in the back court with 15 digs.
Payton Douglass chipped in seven digs as a defensive specialist.

Anna Newsome collected a match-high 24 assists, while
Laura Madill added 11.

USD took an early 4-1 lead in set one before the Broncos went on a 6-1 run to take the lead. The teams traded points to a 14-14 tie before the Toreros put together a 7-2 run to build their largest lead of the set, 21-16. SCU held off three set-points before a kill by Lukes gave USD the first set, 25-23.

The second set remained tightly contested with 10 ties before the halfway point. With the teams knotted 14-all, the Toreros finally broke free with a 6-1 run sparked by two kills from Lukes and a handful of SCU errors. USD maintained the lead down the stretch, finishing with a Jacobsen kill to take the second set 25-22.

The Broncos were hot to start the third set, jumping out to an early 7-1 lead and forcing an early timeout by the Toreros. Back-to-back kills from Turner out of the timeout, followed by a kill from Fayad gave USD some momentum. After back-to-back kills by Lukes and an SCU attacking error, the Toreros pulled even at 10-10.

Santa Clara put together a four-point run to create some distance, but the Toreros rallied back again, tying the set again 18-all. USD closed out the set with an impressive nine-point run that included three kills from both Fayad and Jacobsen, and two from Newsome to take the third set 25-18.

The Broncos held advantages in aces (6-2) and blocks (10-7), however the Toreros held SCU to a .094 hitting percentage on the night, out-digging Santa Clara 50-37. SCU also committed nine service errors compared to five from USD.

The Toreros remain home and look to remain unbeaten in conference play when they play host to San Francisco on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT.
