SAN DIEGO—San Diego put up a season-high 17 blocks to extend its 12-match win streak with a 3-0 victory over San Francisco on Saturday afternoon.

The Toreros (14-4, 7-0 WCC) put up a strong defensive effort, holding the Dons (4-13, 0-6 WCC) to a .060 hitting percentage on the day to win in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-18) for the 11th time this season.

Megan Jacobsen led the way with a career-best eight blocks (1 solo), while
Anna Newsome and
Cami May added six and five blocks respectively. All of USD's front row players (9 total) registered at least one block on the day.

Annie Benbow and
Payton Douglass led the defensive effort in the back court with seven digs each, while Fayad added six. Douglass was also a force at the service line, collecting all three of USD's aces in the match.

Newsome directed the Toreros to a .278 hitting percentage on the day, finishing with a match-high 30 assists. Jacobsen and
Katie Lukes led USD with nine kills each, with Jacobsen hitting at a .571 clip and Lukes finishing at .300. Fayad and
Roxie Wiblin both added four kills for San Diego.

The Toreros started hot in the first set, hitting .417 as a team, with Jacobsen, Fayad and Lukes recording three kills each. USD limited the Dons to a .062 hitting percentage, collecting five blocks including three from Turner in the first frame.

USD's block really found its rhythm in the second set, collecting eight more stops and holding USF to a .000 hitting percentage. Lukes led the efforts on the offensive side, collecting six of her nine kills in the set.

With the teams knotted 5-5 to start the third set, San Diego put together an eight-point run including two aces by Douglass, to create distance. Jacobsen began to heat up, registering five of her nine kills in the set, while Wiblin chipped in three. USD added four more blocks, including three from May.

The Toreros will close out the first half of their conference schedule when they travel to No. 9 BYU on Friday (Oct. 18) at 6 p.m. PT.
