SAN DIEGO – San Diego men's tennis swept its finals on Sunday at the Aztec Fall Invitational as Nico Borter, Marvin Schaber and Sacchitt Sharrma each won their respective flight championships in the three-day tournament.
 
Borter, a redshirt junior out of Switzerland, defeated Arizona's Nick Lagaev in close straight sets 6-4, 7-5 to win the Aztec Flight. Schaber won the State Flight with a 6-4, 6-3 decision over SDSU's Jules Auffray while Sharrma put away Arizona's Conner Olsen in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 to win the Warrior Flight.
 
The freshmen Schaber and Sharrma captured the singles titles in only their second collegiate tournaments.
 
"I was really proud of the way these three competed today," said USD head coach Ryan Keckley. "We talked before the day began about simulating a dual match environment. We wanted to focus on connecting the intensity and competitiveness between each court. We knew there would be some nerves in the final, so bringing the energy on and off the court was critical to each athlete's success."
 
For the tournament, four Toreros – a group which also included David Norfeldt – won 14 combined singles matches.
 
The Toreros will now look towards the ITA All-American Championships that start on Monday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joel Gamerov gets it going with qualifying before Gui Osorio, ranked No. 32 in the ITA preseason rankings, gets his start on Wednesday in the main draw.
