SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's tennis signed their strongest class to date with the addition of Abigail Desiatnikov, Jordyn McBride, and Elisabeth Andryukhova, as announced Wednesday by head coach
Sherri Stephens. "Sherri and I have worked diligently to match talent along with personality. We believe these three embody it all, " said assistant coach
Nadia Abdala.
Abigail Desiatnikov from Las Vegas, Nev. is the first Blue Chip recruit in program history. She boasts a No. 2 ranking in Nevada, is ranked No. 25 nationally, and is one of only 26 women in the nation to receive Blue Chip status this year. On the world circuit, she has an ITF juniors career-high of No. 91 and in WTA play, she has a singles career-high of No. 903.
A California native from Valencia, Jordyn McBride is a five star recruit who has ties to Torero tennis. Her mother, Dina Birch-Mcbride, graduated from USD in 1995 and played for Coach Stephens during her time in San Diego. Jordyn is ranked No. 8 in California, No. 35 in the nation, and within a three year period, she rose 150 spots nationally.
"I am looking forward to coaching the daughter of a past player. Dina was a very important part of our program: great person, great player. I believe Jordyn will be just like her mom," said Coach Stephens.
An international student from Darmstadt, Germany, Elisabeth Andryukhova joins the Toreros ranked No. 1 in Tennisverband-Mittelrhein and No. 99 in the Open Women German rankings. In redirecting her life ambition to play professional tennis, Lisa has chosen to pursue academics along with an elite tennis program.
"USD women's tennis is definitely on the rise as testified by these three amazing recruits. I believe the addition of these student-athletes to the already powerful program will take us to another level," Coach Stephens concluded.
