USD was up by 16 on a couple occasions in the first half. The last time was on a Sabry Philip alley-oop delivered by Hartfield to make it 44-28 with 4:25 left. The Poets, though, went on a 10-1 run to end the first as the Toreros missed four straight field goals, all three-point attempts.

In the second half, Whittier pulled within four at 45-41, but USD propelled out to a 14-0 run over a two-minute stretch midway through to help take a 20-point lead, 69-49, with 11:28 remaining.

The Poets interrupted the run by scoring seven of the game's next 10 points, but Sullivan made his second three-pointer in a two-and-a-half minute stretch to put the Toreros up 75-56 with 7:45 left. USD led by 20+ points for nearly the remainder of the game.
