Patricia Brossmann scored a career-high 24 points but San Diego could not keep up with the BYU offense in an 80-68 loss on Saturday afternoon.

The Toreros (8-19, 1-15 WCC) kept pace with the Cougars (21-6, 13-3 WCC) early, before BYU went on a 9-0 run to end the first half to build a comfortable lead. USD made a late run in the fourth quarter but was not able to complete the comeback.

Brossmann recorded her ninth double-double of the season, collecting 11 rebounds in addition to her game-high 24 points. The junior forward hit 3-of-5 from three-point range and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

San Diego had three other players reach double-digit scoring.
Leticia Soares finished with 19 points while
Madison Pollock and
Kiera Oakry added 10 points each. Oakry led the Toreros with four assists and
Sydney Hunter collected two steals in the contest.

BYU opened with three 3-pointers to start the contest, stretching their lead to 11, but six points from Soares and a 3-pointer from Pollock kept the Cougars within reach. The Toreros trailed 15-19 at the end of the first period.

Aminata Dosso hit a jumper to start the second quarter and pulled the Toreros within two but the Toreros struggled to keep up with the Cougars. BYU outscored San Diego 23-11 in the period and took a 42-26 lead at the half.

Brossmann scored 10 of the Toreros 18 points in the third quarter including two 3-pointers, but the Cougars extended their lead to 20, leading 64-44 heading into the fourth. The Toreros outscored BYU, 16-4 in the final six minutes the deficit proved too much to overcome.

San Diego shot 37 percent (22-of-60) from the field compared to BYU's 55 percent (30-for-55). USD went 5-for-15 from three-point range and outrebounded the Cougars 35-30 including a 16-7 offensive rebound margin.

The Toreros return home for the final two games of the regular season. USD will play host to Santa Clara on Thursday at 6 p.m. before facing San Francisco on Saturday at 2 p.m.Â
